Easy to use, international, accessible, and still free: meet the smart new GNOME desktop and developer platform.

What is GNOME?

GNOME is a Unix and Linux desktop suite and development platform. Here, you can learn more about GNOME as a whole, get involved in GNOME software development, or participate in email discussion lists and news forums.

Developers

Novell and the GNOME Foundation have organized a software development bounty hunt, awarding prizes to individuals or teams who solve selected desktop software problems. The contest is intended to improve integration of disparate pieces of the desktop, and to encourage new programmers to get involved in the GNOME project. Learn more at the main contest page.

Documentation

The GNOME documentation page has up-to-date manuals for using GNOME, plus information on accessibility and system administration. For information about developing software with the GNOME platform, visit the developer documentation page.

The GNOME Foundation

With hundreds of thousands of new users taking advantage of GNOME at Brazilian Telecentros and at schools in Extremadura, now is a good time to make a donation to the GNOME Foundation. To help, become a Friend of GNOME or increase your current level of sponsorship. With your contribution, the GNOME foundation can bring GNOME to the developing world and defray expenses for independent developers and students coming to conferences like GUADEC and the GNOME Summit in 2004.

All contributions are tax-deductible in the U.S.

Special thanks to our generous friends, and remember that every donation is important.
